Bizet's music fascinates above all through its thrilling rhythms. Along with the characteristic marches, the suite contains also all the Spanish dances from the opera "Carmen". The famous Flower Aria brings out the lyrical side of the music. Rehearsals and concerts can therefore be arranged in varied ways.

The cornerstone of the arrangement is an independent strings version. To capture the true spirit of the music, the employment of wind players is desirable: flute, oboe (2nd flute), clarinet, trumpet (2nd clarinet), French horn (alto sax) and bassoon (trombone) can all take part. Additionally percussion instruments including timpani, tambourine, snare drum and triangle can be used. For rehearsal and accompanying purposes, a piano score is provided. The narration (available in German or French) both explains the nature of the music and describes briefly the basic content of the opera.

I find the Carmen arrangement outstanding, just like all other works, which you have modified. … Most of the musical substance is maintained, and at the same time the students get the opportunity to play world-class music. Thank you very much!
